Directions for Mr. Jones' physics students: Complete the task(s) from a site. Work may be submitted electronically or by hard-copy. All hard-copy work must be typed. Complete work from, at least, five (5) History of Science sites for inclusion in your portfolio.

1. Explore the On-line exhibit: A. Einstein - Image and Impact

2.Construct a content assessment instrument for other high school students to complete while visiting the Einstein exhibit.

The instrument must contain a minimum of 28 items with four (4) questions from each of the following types: Note: Answers must also be included on a separate sheet. Write instructions for each section of the assessment.

a. True -False

b. True - False Modify

  • Students must underline false word in statement and write the correct word in a blank to the left of the question.
  • You should only have one false word per statement.

c. Multiple Choice

  • Include at least four (4) choices, No "All of the Above" or "None of the Above".
  • Alternative should be listed one below the other and labelled with capital letters.
  • Avoid correct answer being the longest.
  • Vary correct answer among letters (not always "C".
  • Avoid using absolutes (e.g., never, always)

d. Matching Develop

  • 4 items for matching and 8 possible responses.
  • Keep responses short.

e. Fill-In-the-Blank

  • Avoid technical clues (e.g., a / an, is/are, length of blank).
  • Best to phrase statement so blank is near the end of the sentence.
  • Always use statement rather than questions.

f. Essay

  • Write 4 essay questions that force students to synthesize the information and ideas from the exhibit areas.

g. Drawings or Diagrams

  • Develop four (4) questions that require the students to draw a picture or diagram to synthesize the information or ideas from the exhibit areas.

3. a) Review the quotes from Einstein.

b) Select three favorites.

c) Write an essay or record a speech on why they are your favorites.

 

Site III - Simulations & Interactive Sites

4. Explore the sites listed below. You may need to download software (available at the sites) for the simulations to run. If you can get the sites to function, critique the design and effectiveness of, at least, three of the sites.

5. After reviewing either or both sites, submit a thoughtful question to the author via his Web page. Turn in your question and the author's response to Mr. Jones.

Site V - Demonstrations & Experiments

6. Explore the following activites. Submit a lab report which addresses the following sections: Objective, Materials, Procedure, Observations (qualitative and quantitative with data table), Inferences, Comments on educational effectiveness of activity (give me your thoughts as an expert student).
