Background
I taught English at Nanjing University, China, for seven years before coming to the US in 1985 to pursue graduate degrees. I majored in linguistics for my undergraduate, American literature for my master, and literacy education for my doctoral study. I have worked with children and teachers in the classrooms from K-12 across the nation. My professional training in three different literacy disciplines in the educational systems of two societies, and my teaching and/or research experience in multiple schools from kindergarten to post-secondary levels in two countries with wide cultural differences have made me an educator with a broad view, solid knowledge and rich experience.
I grew up in Communist China and went through the Cultural Revolution as teenager and immigrated to the US as an adult. My life-experience has created an individual with a deep understanding of life, people(s), and our world.
